Validating Oracle Financial Journals

Client: Kier Group plc.
Company Size:
20,000+
Industry:
Construction
Automation tool:
System errors validation

Challenge
Processing approximately 1000 journals a month, Kier regularly received the error message “unable to upload the file” when uploading financial journals to Oracle’s Financial ERP system. When the staff carried out this task, roughly 30% of their journals were rejected during the upload due to various data error inputs. Furthermore, the system did NOT show which part of the journal was causing the error.  As a result, Kier had to put in a huge amount of time and manually find the errors within each failed journal where some of which contain more than 1,000 rows of information

Solution
Traverse has provided an automated validation tool that is capable of smartly identifying the exact error based on the Oracle reading rules. To further simplify the user experience, Traverse used an interactive Excel file to report the validation results.  The team now investigate the journal entry and Kier saves approx. 60 minutes per failed journal which accumulated to a total of 6480 hours saved per year. As a result, Kier does not need to constantly receive upload rejections from Oracle and spends hours and hours just searching for the errors.
